“Our first black president” hitting Barack Obama

“Our first black president” has been trying to make sure that Barack Obama isn’t our first actual black president. Obama’s never really faced a tough election challenge, so if he wants to make it through the brutal general election, he’s gonna have to stand up to this stuff. This is all sleazy politics, but […]

How Hillary Clinton pwned the media

The obligatory irony came when the news media was completely shocked at her victory in New Hampshire. Ironic because the press clearly played a huge role in it, yet completely failed to recognize it. Despite the poll numbers for Obama, Hillary absolutely dominated the press coverage in the final days before the NH primary. Nothing […]

Broken Sex: remembering Lady Jaye Breyer P-Orridge

I have a piece up in the new issue of Key 64:
Lady Jaye Breyer P-Orridge, born Jacqueline Breyer in 1969, passed away Tuesday 9th October 2007. Lady Jaye and her partner Genesis Breyer P-Orridge spent the past several years living an “art as life project” sometimes called “Breaking Sex.” The couple altered their own appearances […]

New Hampshire: what happened?

So there’s been some question as to how the polls could have been so wrong in NH. Let’s take a look:
1) “Bradley effect.” Dave Weigel described this as a “junk theory” some months ago and gave several examples to disprove this idea. In this particular case, Obama did as well as expected in many […]

TNR uncovers more of Ron Paul’s racist newsletters

Above: typical Ron Paul supporter.

Scans of newsletters here.
Paul’s official response.
The Paultards are still in deep denial about all of this. Read Ron Paul racist newsletter FAQ for a swift debunking of the claims of Paul’s defenders. And that was written before TNR released their selection of newsletters came out.
I doubt this will […]

First shot fired in Google-Wikipedia, Secrecy-Transparency war

Wikia Search launched today. So far it’s nothing much, but the plan is to grow the product over the coming years. Jimmy Wales said in a comment on TechCrunch:
When I launched Wikipedia, I wrote at the top of the first page “Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia”. On that day, anyone reviewing it would have laughed. What’s […]

The veep race

The primaries got off to an unusually early start, and so has the vice presidential speculation. It’s never too early to make a fool of yourself with wildly off base predictions, so here are my musings:
Giuliani and Romney: Newt Gingrich seems to be the obvious choice for either one of these guys. Jeb Bush is […]

Clinton tries to spin Obama’s abortion record. Plus: comparing their civil liberties records

TPM Election Central posted a Hillary mailer attacking Obama on abortion. Apparently, back in his Illinois days he voted “present” for a few abortion bills. This attack is that it’s either disingenuous or incompetent. The Capital Fax Blog says:
Maybe only a few members the Tribune contacted remember this ploy, but I do. It […]

Thoughts after the caucus

Things that surprised me:
Richardson beat Biden.
Richardson and Biden both did worse than I expected.
Thompson beat McCain and Paul.
The good:
Obama won.
Biden, the most “establishment” of the dems, is out of the race. He’s better off in the senate right now pushing his Iraq plan through.
Dodd is back to the senate full time.
Huck showed you can’t just […]
