Things I miss about America

1. Soft toilet paper. They give you sandpaper here.

2. Good drip coffee. Espresso only here. Some of it’s ok, but I prefer regular coffee. It’s kind of like how sometimes I like to drink shots of straight liqour, but usually I’d rather drink beer. However, I haven’t been to Italy, so we’ll see.

3. Northwestern beer. Re: German and Czech beer: don’t believe the hype. Brenden tells me that northwestern ale is English style. So maybe the beer in England would be better. Also, I haven’t been to Belgium yet.

4. Indoor places that reek of stale cigerette smoke. Smoking is allowed pretty much everywhere in Europe.

5. All of you. See ya when I get home.

I was suprised that here in Washington D.C., where I am visiting this week, this little cafe in Adams Morgan actually had Seattle beat when it came to one aspect of their coffee–when they handed us the superlarge mugs with our lattes in them (mine with soy, natch), the foamy pattern on top was swirled into the shape of a marijuana leaf. It was a beautiful piece of unexpected art. I wanted to berate the Seattle baristas when I got back.
